Whatcom County Enacts Emergency Moratorium Banning Marijuana Businesses

Last night, the Whatcom County Council enacted an emergency moratorium preventing recreational marijuana businesses from filing any new building or other land development permits in the County.

The moratorium, which will last 60 days, was passed at the urging of the County Executive and Sheriff’s Department. During this 60 day period, the County Council will be working with County Planning Staff to create stricter rules for the siting of recreational marijuana businesses in unincorporated Whatcom County.

Updates on the proposed recreational marijuana regulations will be posted on this site.

For more information on the siting of recreational marijuana businesses in unincorporated Whatcom County and other local jurisdictions, please contact Heather Wolf.
