Whatcom County to Discuss Regulation of Recreational Marijuana Businesses

On Tuesday, the Whatcom County Council will be discussing regulation of Recreational Marijuana Businesses. The discussion is scheduled to occur at 9:30 a.m. during the Council’s Natural Resources Committee Meeting. The Committee agenda is posted here:http://www.co.whatcom.wa.us/council/agenda.jsp

Currently marijuana producers and processors may locate in the County’s Rural and Agricultural zones. The County Council is likely considering further restrictions in light of the recent Washington State Attorney General’s Opinion, which is discussed here.

The Council has also expressed concern regarding a recent application submitted to the State by a recreational marijuana producer/processor near the Sumas area.

For more information on the siting of recreational marijuana businesses in Whatcom County, please contact Heather Wolf.
